Four elementary school students who participate in West Side Elementary School’s Chinese Partial Immersion Program visited Frostburg State University to meet with Chinese circus artists from Cirque Mei prior to their performance in October.

The students, Anna Hilderbrand, Corinna Hilderbrand, Addison Buskirk and Claire Buskirk, had the opportunity to practice Mandarin Chinese with the native Chinese-speaking performers of Cirque Mei.

West Side Elementary School’s Chinese Partial Immersion Program gives students from kindergarten to grade five the opportunity to develop communicative and academic proficiency in both Mandarin Chinese and English.

Cirque Mei is an acrobatic company based in Hebei Province, China, that featured 40 elite circus artists in a celebration of traditional and contemporary Chinese circus acts.

The CES program’s performance of Cirque Mei was sponsored by Terry Murphy.
